Gomez DOT SAP Services works with DOT-regulated employers, Designated Employer Representatives (DERs), and other transportation industry professionals to help employees complete the federally required Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) process following a DOT drug or alcohol violation.
We provide clear communication, professional documentation, and timely coordination throughout the SAP process.
When a DOT-regulated employee receives a qualifying drug or alcohol violation, the employee must complete the SAP process before becoming eligible to return to safety-sensitive DOT duties.
Gomez DOT SAP Services provides:
Initial SAP evaluations
Individualized education and/or treatment recommendations
Follow-up SAP evaluations
SAP compliance determinations
Employer/DER SAP reports
Follow-up testing plans
FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse reporting when applicable
Routine case coordination related to the SAP process
When appropriate and permitted under applicable DOT requirements, Gomez DOT SAP Services communicates with the employer or DER regarding the employee's progress through the SAP process.
Required SAP reports and information are provided at the appropriate stages of the process.
Our goal is to make the process clear for both the employee and the employer while maintaining professional boundaries and applicable confidentiality requirements.
The SAP evaluates the employee and determines the appropriate education and/or treatment recommendation based on the evaluation and applicable DOT requirements.
After the employee completes the recommendation, the SAP conducts a follow-up evaluation and determines whether the employee has demonstrated successful compliance with the SAP recommendation.
A determination of successful compliance allows the employee to become eligible to proceed to the Return-to-Duty testing stage.
The SAP does not order or conduct the Return-to-Duty test. The employer or prospective employer is responsible for ensuring the required Return-to-Duty testing process is completed before the employee performs safety-sensitive duties.
When an employee successfully completes the SAP requirements, the SAP establishes a follow-up testing plan in accordance with DOT requirements.
The employer is responsible for carrying out the SAP's follow-up testing plan once the employee returns to safety-sensitive duties.
Follow-up testing is separate from the employer's regular random testing program.
For FMCSA-regulated drivers, Gomez DOT SAP Services completes applicable SAP reporting through the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
The SAP records the required information at the appropriate stages of the Return-to-Duty process in accordance with applicable federal requirements.
Employers and DERs are welcome to contact Gomez DOT SAP Services regarding SAP services for an employee who has received a DOT drug or alcohol violation.
We can explain the SAP process, coordinate the appropriate next steps, and provide the required SAP documentation as the employee progresses through the process.
